The season opener of “Saturday Night Live” (NBC, 11:30 p.m.) is always worth noting, though the prospects seem shakier than usual at the dawn of the 48th season, following a huge slate of departures, including Kate McKinnon, Pete Davidson, Andy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, Melissa Villaseñor and Alex Moffat. The new additions are largely unknown, as is usually the case: Michael Longfellow, Molly Kearney, Marcello Hernandez and Devon Walker. Hosting the premiere is Miles Teller of “Top Gun: Maverick”; Kendrick Lamar is musical guest.

Also opening its 48th season is “Austin City Limits” (PBS, 11 p.m., check local listings) with a night-long performance of Brandi Carlile.

A new renovation series has unique specifications: “We Bought a Funeral Home” (Discovery+, streaming).

“Yvonne Orji: A Whole Me” (HBO, 10 p.m.) is the second standup comedy special from the star of “Insecure.”

The disappearance of a 22-year-old travel blogger last fall has already become a TV movie in “The Gabby Petito Story” (Lifetime, 8 p.m.), with Skylar Samuels in the title role and Evan Hall as her fiancé Brian Laundrie. The background of the real story follows on “Beyond the Headlines” (Lifetime, 10:05 p.m.). 

“Conjuring Kesha” (Travel, 10 p.m.) is the cable premiere of the previously streaming series in which the singer samples paranormal phenomenon. 

A third season starts for the true crime documentary series “Killer Cases” (A&E, 10 p.m.), starting with a series of arsons.

Tamera Mowry-Housley, Krystal Joy Brown and Lyndie Greenwood star in In the made-for-TV romance “Girlfriendship” (Hallmark, 8 p.m.), a birthday party is extended for a week in South Carolina’s Lowcountry.
