It was Labor Day, yes, and also the week to remember the 25th anniversary of 9/11. But the outrageous attempt to rename a Great Lake took up the first part of our show with songs about Ontario, lakes and Canada in general.
Only then came songs about work, which only now seems odd — shouldn’t they have been songs instead about taking a break from work? At any rate, a chance to play more Dolly with “9 to 5,” and The Ramones possible response song, “It’s Not My Place (In the 9 to 5 World).”
We remembered Cassandra Wilson, who died last week at 70, with three of her notable interpretations — and capped it with the Funky 4 + 1 to note the passing of its member Keith Keith (Keith Caesar) at 64.
Some big birthdays to note, from Buddy Holly, who would have been 90 today if he hadn’t died at 22; and Chrissie Hynde, who reached 75. Birthdays were also noted for Gloria Gaynor, Jermaine Stewart, Julie Kavner, Benmont Tench and Latimore, who, like Dolly, was also heard last week due to his recent passing.
