Lucy Hale helps host in New York, while Ciara presides in Los Angeles and Billy Porter reports from New Orleans.  Meanwhile, there is “Fox’s New Year’s Eve with Steve Harvey: Live from Times Square” (Fox, 8 p.m.) with Maria Menounos co-hosting. LL Cool headlines, the Lumineers and Chainsmokers perform and the Village People try to set a record for largest “YMCA” dance.

Starting a more reasonable two hours later is “NBC’s New Year’s Eve 2020” (NBC, 10 p.m.) hosted by Carson Daly and Julianne Hough. Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, X Ambassadors, Ne-Yo and Brett Eldridge perform. Keith Urban reports from Nashville.

“New Year’s Eve Live with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen” (CNN, 8 p.m.) reunites the two old friends at Times Square, with Kathy Griffin replaced by the Bravo host and producer for the second year in a row.

A Sondheim celebration from the New York Philharmonic is the classier New Year’s Eve fare from “Live from Lincoln Center” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings).

And a count down in Spanish is offered on “Feliz 2020” (Univision, 8 p.m.).

Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush host “A Toast to 2019” (NBC, 8 p.m.), covering pop culture events of the year. Kristen Bell and Maya Rudolph show up. And with its own slant: “Who Can Forget? 2019” (Fox News, 8 p.m.).

One newsmagazine perhaps uniquely prepared for the new year: “20/20” (Investigation Discovery, 8 and 9 p.m.).

The least recommended countdown show may be the “New Year’s Eve Special with Antonella & Rick” (QVC, 10 p.m.).

The Indian import “Ghost Stories” (Netflix, streaming) is a feature anthology of four horror stories, each from a different director.

In the new Spanish series “The Neighbor” (Netflix, streaming) a student discovers his neighbor also happens to be a superhero.

From Japan comes the documentary series “Arashi’s Diary – Voyage” (Netflix, streaming), about the Japanese boy band of the same name preparing for a big hiatus in a year. New episodes will be issued monthly.

The standup comedy showcase“The Degenerates” (Netflix, streaming) starts its second season with sets from Jim Norton, Nikki Glaser, Donnell Rawlings, Adrienne Iapalucci, Ms. Pat and Robert Kelly.

The third and final season of the Norwegian political thriller “Occupied” (Netflix, streaming) is also available.

“Inside the NFL” (Showtime, 11 p.m.) considers the surprising turn of events in the weekend games.

“iHeart Radio Music Festival” (CW, 8 p.m.) gets a replay.

One of the best traditions annually is the New Year’s marathon of “The Twilight Zone” (Syfy, 6 a.m.), playing 92 episodes of Rod Serling’s classic series.

“Ferris Beuller’s Day Off” (IFC, 2, 4:30, 7 and 9:30 p.m.) gets four consecutive showings.

There’s a double episode of “The Haves and the Have Nots” (OWN, 9 p.m.).

A nice New Year’s Even tradition on Turner Classic Movies is a marathon of “The Thin Man” (9:15 a.m.) with “After the Thin Man” (11 a.m.), “Another Thin Man” (1 p.m.), “Shadow of the Thin Man” (2:45 p.m.), “The Thin Man Goes Home” (4:30 p.m.) and “Song of the Thin Man” (6:15 p.m.).

At primetime comes the MGM musical compendiums “That’s Entertainment!” (8 p.m.), “That’s Entertainment! II” (10:30 p.m.), “That’s Entertainment! III” (12:45 a.m.) and “That’s Dancing!” (3 a.m.).

Today’s bowl games have Virginia Tech vs. Kentucky (ESPN, noon) in the Belk Bowl, Florida State vs. Arizona State (CBS, 2 p.m.) in the Sun Bowl, Navy vs. Kansas State (ESPN, 4 p.m.) in the Liberty Bowl, Georgia State vs. Wyoming (CBS Sports, 4:30 p.m.) in the Arizona Bowl and Utah vs. Texas (ESPN, 7:30 p.m.) in the Alamo Bowl.

Hockey includes Rangers at Edmonton (NHL, 9 p.m.).
