When an English teacher begins hearing a persistent hum, it leads to bigger problems in the five-part drama “The Listeners” (Starz, 9 p.m.), based on Jordan Tannaill’s novel. Rebecca Hall stars. 

From South Africa comes the drama “The Polygamist” (Netflix, streaming) about a man whose empire begins to collapse because what he has chosen.  It’s not to be confused with the reality series “This is Poly” (WEtv, 9:30 p.m.), which tonight peeks into a polyamorous pool party. 

An 18th century storyteller in Mexico is haunted by her own imagination in the animated comedy “I Am Frankelda” (Netflix, streaming). 

World Cup host nations play today with Canada vs. Bosnia-Herzegovina (Fox, 3 p.m.) from Toronto and U.S. vs. Paraguay (Fox, 9 p.m.) from Los Angeles. 

“Power Book III: Raising Kanan” (Starz, 8 p.m.) begins its fifth and final season. 

Jack McBrayer explores a Bavarian-themed lodge and a maze house on “Zillow Gone Wild” (HGTV, 9:30 p.m.).

Turner Classic Movies’ Friday night Summer of Dark continues with “Scarlet Street” (8 p.m.), “The Killers” (10:15 p.m.), and “Nightmare Alley” (1 a.m.).  Later comes “The Yakuza” (3 a.m.) and “The First Deadly Sin” (5 a.m.).

During the day are tales of the supernatural, with “Turnabout” (7 a.m.), “Beyond Tomorrow” “The Devil and Daniel Webster” “The Horn Blows at Midnight” “I Married an Angel” “Topper Returns” “The Centerville Ghost” and “The Rocking Horse Winner”
