Vanessa Hudgens, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Lawrence and Kristen Stewart are competing for favorite movie actress; Miranda Cosgrove, Selena Gomez, victoria Justice and Bridgit Mendler are up for favorite TV actress. Performers include Ke$ha and Pitbull.

The show is used as a launching pad for a new animated series “Monsters vs. Aliens” (Nickelodeon), based on the movie.

Eric McCormack plays his most no-nonsense role in years as an upstate New York detective bent on nabbing a spoiled college student who appears to have attacked his parents with an axe, killing his father and seriously injuring his mother in “Romeo Killer’ The Chris Porco Story” (Lifetime, 8 p.m.).

It’s not a badly told tale, and follows the Lifetime formula of a the worst possible male almost getting away with his deeds. Matt Barr, who was in “Hatfields & McCoys,” is the suspect who continues to try to get his way by seducing women.

Erik Estrada stars in another original TV movie “Chupacabra vs. the Alamo” (Syfy, 9 p.m.) in which the mythical vampire beast fights against the authorities at a place of history. The drug cartels are also involved somehow.

“Shadow on the Mesa” (Hallmark Movie Channel, 8 p.m.) is an old fashioned Western with Ws Brown playing a bounty hunter in search of his biological dad, played by Kevin Sorbo. The cast includes Meredith Baxter, Barry Corbin and Gail O’Grady.

Premium cable offers premieres of “Rock of Ages” (HBO, 8 p.m.), “Sparkle” (Starz, 9 p.m.) and  “Chernobyl Diaries” (Cinemax, 10 p.m.),

In honor of the gun control collapse in Congress: “Gun Crazy” (TCM, 8 p.m.) followed by such female members of the NRA as “Annie Oakley” (9:45 p.m.), “Gloria” (11:30 p.m.) and “La Femme Nikita” (1:45 a.m.).

Third round action in the NCAA tournament include Virginia Commonwealth vs. Michigan (CBS, 12:15 p.m.), Memphis vs. Michigan State (CBS, 2:45 p.m.), Colorado State vs. Louisville (CBS, 5:15 p.m.), Harvard vs. Arizona (TNT, 6:10 p.m.), Oregon vs. Saint Louis (TBS, 7:10 p.m.), Butler vs. Marquette (CBS, 7:45 p.m.), Wichita State vs. Gonzaga (TNT, 8:40 p.m.) and California vs. Syracuse (TBS, 9:40 p.m.).

What we need about now is more college basketball. The NCAA women’s tournament begins today with its own array of games, starting with Saint Joseph’s vs. Vanderbilt (ESPN2, 11:05 a.m.) and ESPN2 whipping around to parts of the other 15 games through 8 p.m.

The Civil Wars and Punch Brothers play “Austin City Limits” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings).

Another rerun on “Saturday Night Live” (NBC, 11:30 p.m.). It’s the one hosted by Adam Levine with music guest Kendrick Lamar. At 10 p.m., it’s more Adam Levine, but as a frontman of Maroon 5, musical guest on a one hour version of “SNL” hosted by Jeremy Renner.
