A hiking trek to the Alps prompted some songs about Germany (or in that language), as well as a meditation on signs that have to be followed in order to stay on the trail.
But the first live Capital Radio in three weeks started with the birthdays of two drummers, whose careers were marked by early standout work — Louie Bellson in Duke Ellington’s “Skin Deep,” and Michael Shrieve in Santana’s “Soul Sacrifice.”
Other birthdays were celebrated for Nanci Griffith, Bill Haley, Gene Chandler, Della Reese, Jeannie Seely, Kate Nash, fiddler Byron Berline, Jet Harris of the Shadows, and Jet frontman Nic Cester.
We closed with remembrance of record exec Clive Davis and Blood Sweat & Tears singer David Clayton-Thomas.
Here’s the archived show, in three parts; the setlist follows.
