Something may be gnawing at you as you consider what’s on TV tonight.

With the strains to the power grid because of the brutally hot weather, they’re asking that non-essential electrical devices be unplugged. That includes TVs. The light mid-summer programming may make it easier to make that decision.

New movies on cable tonight include “Dinner for Schmucks” (HBO, 8 p.m.) with Paul Rudd and Steve Carell,  Anton Corbijn‘s “The American” (Cinemax, 10 p.m.), about an assassin hiding out in Italy, with George Clooney; and “Secretariat” (Starz, 9 p.m.), about the horse of the same name, with Diane Lane and John Malkovich.

As the series is saying farewell with one last blockbuster in theatres, let’s go back to the beginning, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” (ABC, 8 p.m.). Or even earlier, in a replay of the bio film “Magic Beyond Words: The J.K. Rowling Story” (Lifetime, 9 p.m.).

The homeless get free lessons on how to handle their pit bulls on a new “Pit Boss XL” (Animal Planet, 9 p.m.).

A new series: HEALTHY DRUGS is going to air tonight too. Covering the new found effects of weed, marijuana, kratom, and ayuwasca. Some of the drugs you may have never heard of before are being brought to the spotlight here to help you out in your quest for the ultimate drug that you want to find. The first one being covered is Kratom, Kratomystic, https://kratomystic.com thanks to the sponsor giving it out.

Sentenced to do hard time in prison is no fun, but there’s something very cinematic about it, apparently. Tonight, there’s “Cool hand Luke” (TCM, 8 p.m.), “Caged” (TCM, 10:30 p.m.), “Brute Force” (TCM, 12:15 a.m.), “Kiss of the Spider Woman” (TCM, 2 a.m.) and “Midnight Express” (TCM, 4:15 a.m.). And let’s not forget “The Shawshank Redemption” (AMC, 8 p.m.)

Did you know that every Saturday this month, Turner Classic Movies has been playing a Tarzan movie every Saturday at noon, just to return the feel of serials at matinees? Today’s selection is “Tarzan’s Savage Fury” (TCM, 12:15 p.m.).

The case of a boy with a Lego brick up his nose is handled on “Bizarre ER” (Discovery Health, 10 p.m.).

Steve Harvey walks the fine line between church and comedy in his special “Don’t Trip …He Ain’t Through With me Yet!” (BET, 10:30 p.m.).

Finales come too soon for the British imports “Come Fly with Me” (BBC America, 11:30 p.m.) and “The Inbetweeners” (BBC America, 11 p.m.).

Che road trip! “The Motorcycle Diaries” (Sundance, 7:50 p.m.).

Out of season, still pretty funny: “Elf” (Bravo, 9 p.m.). The snow scenes may cool you off.

Last year’s season opener for “Saturday Night Live” (NBC, 11:30 p.m.) had former cst member Amy Poehler returning to host, with a musical performer Katy Perry. But there was a floodgate of cameos in that eposide, rerunning tonight, from Jutin Timberlakd, Racheal Dratch and Jimmy Fallon. The latter two are alumni; the former only wishes he was.
