Television - Strange and NorrellWhat I’ve seen of “Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norell” (BBC America, 10 p.m.) looks terrific. The seven-part adaptation of Susanna Clarke’s best selling novel stars Eddie Marsan and Bertie Carvel as a couple of guys who try to bring magic back to England at the start of the 19th century. So the period drama is enlivened by some fancy special effects. It comes after another new episode of “Orphan Black” (BBC America, 9 p.m.).

Tina Fey, Diane Keaton, Conan O’Brien, Amy Poehler, Dan Aykroyd, Lily Tomlin, Steve Carell, Carl Reiner, Sarah Silverman Mel Brooks, Jack Black and Queen Latifah are all featured in “The AFI Lifetime Achievement Award: A Tribute to Steve Martin” (TBS, 10 p.m.), taped in Los Angeles last weekend.

The idea for Jeff Ross was to skip roasting the usual deserving celebrities and to save his digs for regular people who happen to be jail. What he found out was out out of control incarceration was in America. So his special “Jeff Ross Roasts Criminals: Live at the Brazos County Jail” (Comedy Central, 10 p.m.), in addition to being funny, ought to be eye-opening as well.

Sounds like the mechanical bull finally broke down from the title “Urban Cowboy: The Rise and Fall of Gilley’s” (CMT, 9 p.m.) by filmmakers who sound like they’re looking for documentary subject matter in all the wrong places. It follows a screening of “Urban Cowboy” (CMT, 6 p.m.).
