Zoo-CBS-banner-1The premise for many shows in the summer are the kinds of things that would have made for good single episodes of “The Twilight Zone” — A town under a glass dome! A town you can’t leave! A boy who’s a robot! A robot who’s a nanny! Tonight add to that with an adaptation of James Patterson’s novel, “Zoo” (CBS, 9 p.m.) about a malady that causes animals worldwide to attack people. James Wolk, Kristen Connolly and Billy Burke star.

MTV has been without a hit for such a long time — yoou really have to go back to “Jersey Shore” or the first days of “Catfish” — that they’re trying their luck with comedy horror tonight with a series made out of the 90s franchise “Scream” (MTV, 10 p.m.). Expect annoying phone calls, that Munch-inspired plastic mask and plenty of blood.

Eight transgender children, age 9 to 19, talk about their experiences on an episode of “Frontline” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings) called “Growing Up Trans.”

This will be big: U.S. vs Germany (Fox, 7 p.m.) in the FIFA Women’s World Cup semifinals in Montreal.

To help its launch is the second of a two-night launch of the fifth season of “Teen Wolf” (MTV, 9 p.m.).

The Washington wide receiver who fancies himself a musician and fashionista gets his own series, “Desean Jackson: Home Team” (BET, 8:30 p.m.).

Here’s a new show that sounds familiar: Watt’s World, “Watts World” (Travel, 10 p.m.). Party time! Excellent! Except that he goes to Italy and Albania.

Ordinary people compete against professional athletes on “Beat the Champions” (Fox, 9 p.m.), a show that sounds suspiciously like an old cable entry.  Missy Franklin, Scottie Pippin and Rob Gronkowski are among the athletes. Ex “SNL” cast member Finesse Mitchell hosts.

Hank and Olympia go to Manhattan on “Royal Pains” (USA, 10 p.m.).

The team has been losing on “Dance Moms” (Lifetime, 8 p.m.).

An Iraq war veteran thinks he got his PTSD from the Korean War in a previous life on “Proof” (TNT, 10 p.m.).

It’s summertime on “Chopped” (Food, 10 p.m.), too, so they have to cook with ice-cream.

Lillian tries to get a divorce on a new episode of “Another Period” (Comedy Central, 10:30 p.m.) because it’s so fashionable. “Inside Amy Schumer” (Comedy Central, 10 p.m.) does some time traveling of its own.

Brianna gets something done in the studio on “Sisterhood of Hip Hop” (Oxygen, 9 p.m.).

A couple postpones its wedding so they can lose weight on a two hour “Extreme Weight Loss” (ABC, 9 p.m.). Which I guess means no cake.

Barry takes refuge with a Bedouin family on a new “Tyrant” (FX, 10 p.m.).

Kristin is suspicious of her coworkers on “Stitchers” (ABC Family, 9 p.m.).

Street food from Mexico City, Chicago and Jamaica are featured on “Anthony Bourdain No Reservations” (Travel, 8 p.m.)

A couple of case studies of a movie being made into a musical can be seen on Turner Classic Movies, where the 1958 comedy “Auntie Mame” (8 p.m.) makes way for the 1974 musical remake “Mame” (10:30 p.m.) and the 1940 classic “The Philadelphia Story” (1 a.m.) becomes the 1956 musical “High Society” (3 a.m.).

Baseball includes Cubs at Mets (ESPN, 8 p.m.).
