There’s no denying fall is here, especially after a couple hours of songs about falling leaves, summer’s end and the chill in the air. Plus three versions of “September Song.”

There was time, too, to salute some of the music of George Gershwin, born this day in 1898, and salute the birthdays of musicians from Cesar Rosas (68) to Bryan Ferry (77), as well as birthdates of those who have passed, including Marty Robbins, Lynn Anderson and Olivia-Newton John, who would have turned 74 today. 

Today was also the anniversary of the death of Bessie Smith in a car crash in 1937 at the age of 43.

But mostly it was about fall.
