Started with a salute to the peerless vocals of Astrud Gilberto, who introduced much of the world to the Bossa Nova and died a week ago at the age of 83, from her own, largely uncredited work with Stan Getz to some remixes that came decades later, proving her enduring allure.
Then it was a plunge into music of smoke, haze and pollution after last week’s wildfire smoke from Canada wildfires gave the mid-Atlantic coast its worst air quality days in decades, if not ever. The set included two songs from the Kinks and two different songs called “Smoke on the Water.” There were three songs called “Smoke,” and another three titled “Fire.” There were differing takes on smoke signals from The Band and Phoebe Bridgers. And there was also both a “Hazey Jane” and a “Hazy Lane.”
Ended with a couple of cuts from Bob Dylan’s recent release of his 2021 streaming effort, “Shadow Kingdom,” a pretty smoky affair of its own.
