radioCPRI wasn’t scheduled to go on tonight, but nobody else was coming in, and I had a lot I wanted to play. Some Paul Revere and the Raiders, because of the bandleader’s death this week, but a whole lot of Lou Whitney, the unforgettable character at the center of bands like The Skeletons and the Morells, and in the studio, producing records by the Del Lords, Syd Straw, Charlie Burton and Jonathan Richman. So there was a lot to play — from his own bands and those whose records he produced or engineered. And there was a cover of a Paul Revere song.

I ended with some “Madison Time” as an encouragement to the Orioles, who were losing in the 10th inning at the moment.

It didn’t work.
