Monday TV: Scholastic Pressure Cooker

The stressful college application for high-achieving Asian-American students at a San Francisco high school is examined on the documentary “Try Harder!” making its debut on “Independent Lens” (PBS, 10 p.m.). 

Emilia Fox stars in the three-part detective drama “Signora Volpe” (AcornTV, streaming), playing a British spy who arrives for the destination wedding of her niece in Italy only to find bridegroom dead. 

The rapper taps into his interior decorating skills for the unusual new renovation show “Lil Jon Wants to Do What?” (HGTV, 10 p.m.).

Somebody is definitely following Kim on “Better Call Saul” (AMC, 9 p.m.).

Fashion goes to the extremes, usually, at the annual Met Gala, where the main show is on the red carpet. It gets covered on “Live from E!: Met Gala” (E!, 6 p.m.). 

The Stanley Cup Playoffs begin with first round games of Boston at Carolina (ESPN, 7 p.m.), Tampa Bay at Toronto (ESPN2, 7:30 p.m.), St. Louis at Minnesota (ESPN, 9:30 p.m.) and Los Angeles at Edmonton (ESPN2, 10 p.m.). 

Jenkins learns some hard truths as a new officer on “We Own This City” (HBO, 9 p.m.).

“NCIS” (CBS, 9 p.m.) looks into teenage partygoers suspected into breaking into Quantico.
