Just like last November, CBS announced a revamped cast for its troubled Early Show set to begin in January.

But the approach seems to be decidedly different in concentrating on more serious news.

Some well known names – Charlie Rose and Gayle King – will co-host the as-yet unnamed morning competitor to “Today” and “Good Morning America” on Jan. 9. Erica Hill, pictured left, is the lone holdover from the current show.

The new show, according to a news conference Tuesday, will not include Halloween costumes, Friday concerts or cooking segments. It won’t even have weather, relying instead on the local cut-ins to handle morning temperatures.

For the new show King will have to give up her talk show on OWN and Sirius FM; but Rose will be allowed to keep his weeknight talk show job on PBS.
