Awash in nostalgia while preparing for a 50th high school reunion this weekend, the music of 1972 dominated the show — songs from the first half of the year mostly, and some of the previous year, reflecting the 1971-’72 school year. (Music from late ’72 changed significantly, or more probably, I did).

The first part of the show celebrated the birthdays of those with us, Connie Stevens ( turning 84), Keith Carradine (73) The Edge (61), Anton Fig (70) and drummer Willie Hall (72), and those born this day who have passed, from Johnny Dodds and Joe Tex to Webb Pierce, Karen Black and Glen Campbell.

We marked the death last week of Judith Durham, the distinctive vocalist of The Seekers, who died at 79. And a death reported by the end of the show, of Olivia Newton-John at 73, with a song that also fit the show timeline.

Here’s a link to the whole show; the playlist follows.
