There will be few new twists when the new “Survivor: One World” (CBS, 8 p.m.) begins tonight. It’ll be men vs. women, for one thing, but both tribes will live on the same beach, meaning there may be some nocturnal fraternizing.
The rules for hidden immunity idols have changed as well; when one finds one, he or she has to give it to a member of the other tribe, forcing some intertribal strategy along the way.
Certainly the cast seems generally younger and more buff than usual – all pecs and bikini bodies. And they’re forced to be social: there’s no Redemption Island this time around. Among the contestants are an NFL wife, two people with a nickname derived from Tarzan, a small person and a gay Republican. Jeff Probst, the constant, continues as host.
Elisabeth Shue, the most underused actresses in Hollywood, gets a fulltime TV gig, joining the cast of “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” (CBS, 10 p.m.). Playing a blood splatter specialist, she’ll take the place of Marg Helgenberger, who left.
Valentine’s Day lingers on some shows, including the season finale of “Hot in Cleveland” (TV Land, 10 p.m.).
Group performances may actually occur as Hollywood Week continues on “American Idol” (Fox, 8 p.m.).
Alas, “Oprah’s Oscar Special” (OWN, 9 p.m.) has been farmed out to cable as well, and its guest reflect it: Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Jonah Hill.
If you missed it last summer “The Hour” (BBC America, 10 p.m.) starts to rerun again.
Overdrinking causes some problems on “Modern Family” (ABC, 9 p.m.). Tessa runs for a student office on “Suburgatory” (ABC, 8:30 p.m.).
I’m betting there’s some Whitney Houston coverage on this week’s “Rock Center with Brian Williams” (NBC, 9 p.m.). But some mourners may be disappointed when they tune into the show called “Whitney” (NBC, 8 p.m.).
They’re promising a big climactic event on “Revenge” (ABC, 10 p.m.) — what happens at the dressy engagement party of Emily and Daniel that ends in a murder. Also in the Hamptons, Tom Cavanagh returns to “Royal Pains” (USA, 10 p.m.) as an ailing golf pro.
It’s all about the Himalayas on public TV tonight on “Nova” (PBS, 8 and 9 p.m., check local listings) and the special “Cave People of the Himalaya” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings.
Max’s relationship is going well on “Happy Endings” (ABC, 9:30 p.m.).
The Oscar movies tonight on Turner Classic Movies are set in Africa: “The Nun’s Story” (8 p.m.), “Casablanca” (11 p.m.), “Breaker Morant” (1 a.m.), “Mogambo” (3 a.m.) and “Trader Horn” (5 a.m.).
Movies named after pop songs tonight includes “California Dreamin’” (Sundance, 8 p.m.), “Pretty Woman” (ABC Family, 8:30 p.m.), “A Simple Twist of Fate” (Flix, 9:35 p.m.) and “Addicted to Love” (TV Guide Network, 10 p.m.).
It’s Oklahoma State at Missouri (ESPN2, 9 p.m.) in college hoops.
In NHL action, it’s Bruins at Canadiens (NBC Sports, 7:30 p.m.).
